Priorities

Running a school district is a complex endeavor. Running a school district aiming to be among the finest in the country requires engaged students, teachers, administrative staff, support staff and Board of Education members.

Barrington 220's continued success is beneficial to everyone within the boundaries - whether their children are currently in school or they are concerned about their property values. Barrington at its best benefits all!

Barrington 220 is a destination district. With the right leadership, we can continue to heal after 2020 and thrive well into the future.

I believe Barrington District 220 has to focus on the ABCs:

A - Achieve Greater Levels of Academic Excellence Tailored to Individual Needs

Our students have a broad range of talents, abilities, and interests. We must preserve the philosophy of District 220 to promote a climate where a child’s personal signature, his or her distinctive way of learning and creating, is encouraged and preserved. This could mean continued offerings of advanced placement courses as well as Individual Learning Plans and much more. We must not rely on standardized test scores alone to judge the worth of any of our students. Barrington District 220 must continue to maximize achievement for each and every student.

B - Build Well-Rounded Students Through Expanded Opportunities in the Fine Arts, Athletics, and Other Extracurricular Activities

Building well rounded students means providing our children with opportunities for collaboration, healthy physical activities, public speaking opportunities, team work, and other activities that build confidence. In this past year like none other, our children have suffered the loss of many health outlets. Our Athletics department has done their level best to keep sports safe and sustainable throughout the pandemic. Seeing our Fine Arts department creatively shine has reminded us all how important the arts are to us as a community. The Board also must keep a well balanced perspective to support the varied needs of the school district.

C - Commit to Equity While Embracing our Differences with Compassion and Open Communication

Commitment to equity requires listening to people to ensure that every student, no matter where they are located in the District or how they unique they may be, has the same respect and same opportunities as every other student. Board members must make time to listen to and coordinate with groups like Courageous Conversations and Be The Change as well as the first-ever Director of Equity, Race, and Cultural Diversity initiatives, Mr. Nate Rouse.
