Family

We have called Barrington home for the last twelve years. After I retired from the U.S. Navy in 2009, we settled here primarily because of the great schools, the small town feel, the proximity to the train station for my commute to my office downtown Chicago, and the abundance of natural beauty in the many forest preserves.

My wife, Elba, and I have five children, who have gone through stages of the District 220 journey. My kids have attended Roslyn Road Elementary School, Prairie Middle School and Barrington High School. Four of my kids graduated from high school and my youngest is in her senior year. My wife is also currently a bilingual kindergarten teacher at Sunny Hill Elementary school and she was a Bilingual Teacher Assistant at Prairie for 4 years. As a result, we have a pretty good idea of the many tremendous opportunities provided by the District as well as some of the challenges.

I have done my best to live a life of service. I was an active duty officer in the United States Navy for over two decades. I served as a Scoutmaster and various other roles in the Boy Scouts of America since I became an Eagle Scout in 1984. I volunteered as an adult leader of youth organizations in various churches, including St Anne’s. I would now like to serve the local community as a member of the District 220 Board of Education.

Work Experience

My formal education was in Physics and Engineering. I attended Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota and then the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana for my Bachelors and Masters in Engineering.

I served two decades as an officer in the United States Navy Civil Engineer Corps. In this job, I combined my skills as a Professional Engineer, Warranted Federal Contracting Officer, Seabee Combat Warfare Specialist, and Master Training Specialist as I performed my assignments around the world in some pretty interesting places including Panama, Hawaii, California, Tokyo, Guam, Virginia, Connecticut, Greece, Mississippi, and other locations. My responsibilities included various phases of planning, design, construction, operations, and maintenance of facilities on Department of Defense installations.
